Big Cheese Pizza   

This University of Miami institution has been serving its famous garlic rolls, pizzas and pasta dishes to hungry families, frat boys and football players for years, and continues to do so with no signs of slowing down. Always bustling thanks to its low prices and massive portions, the Big Cheese is a traditional Staten Island-style Italian joint. There's nothing fancy about the place, which is why everyone seems to, er, fancy it. Come in shorts and T-shirts, sneakers and sweats, whatever. This is not the kind of Italian restaurant in which strolling violinists compose the soundtrack. Instead, high-fiving, beer-drinking college kids, screaming children and just about anyone else craving a delicious meatball hero, pepperoni pizza or baked ziti frequent the Big Cheese, creating a cacophonous yet melodic soundtrack of overly satisfied -- and stuffed -- customers. Be forewarned that there's almost always a wait here, and if you're tortured by the scent of the garlic rolls wafting outside during your wait, don't be afraid to go inside and order a basket to tide you over until your table is ready. -- Lesley Abravanel
