Guru Restaurant and Wine Bar   

Although Asian fusion restaurants are as ubiquitous on South Beach as J-Lo look-alikes, the one type of Asian that's conspicuously and inexplicably missing is Indian cuisine. In a place like South Beach, where every restaurant is as good as the next trend, it's odd that Indian restaurants -- hip in all major cosmopolitan cities -- have gotten the shaft here. Enter Guru Restaurant and Wine Bar, a small spot serving typical fare like salads and pizzas, but with atypical toppings such as chicken tikka and curried veggies. Veggie burgers here are popular lunch choices, but the real draw is the daily Indian specials ranging from tofu dishes to chicken and fish dishes. Because Guru's owner Adish Jain worked at the Four Seasons in Palm Beach, not to mention in his family's kicthen back in India, you can expect nothing short of homemade, creative take on Indian fare, the kind that may have turned up to dubiously fill the void of authentic Indian cuisine in a town so starved for it.
