This Cuban standby is one of the best places to experience what it must be like in a Havana kitchen. A lively place abuzz with activity, and on weekends, live music, Las Culebrinas is a cozy spot featuring a massive, large portioned tapas menu. The garlic sauteed shrimp is amazing, as are the pork and chicken dishes served with the requisite heapings of rice and beans. Fried pork chunks, in particular, may be a health conscious person's worst nightmare, but they are blissfully to die for, if that helps. Shoulder meat on a bed of avocado sauce is another hit, as are any of the seafood dishes, particularly the surf and turf which features expertly prepared, flavorful chorizo sausage with scallops. A great suggestion is to order a ton of appetizers and forego the entrees. This way, you can experience a small taste of a lot of dishes. Left overs are common here and the waiters will be happy to give you containers and even assistance in carrying them to your car.

Great food, great quantities, great prices, great service

Actually, the title sort of says it all. And the best part of this is that I live within walking distance...only five blocks away. I go there very often, and have truly enjoyed every entree I've tried. But the tapas...sigh...the appetizers are awesome. The garbanzos with sausage...the shrimp in garlic sauce...just simply delicious. And who can say anything bad about a restaurant with seven kinds of flan?
