Searching for Zen and enlightenment? Opium Garden can take you there South Beach style. This two-level nightclub is an amazing blend of Eastern philosophy and mod club life. The vast garden and outdoor terrace greet you at the entrance, providing a scenic backdrop for the balmy ocean breezes that whisper through here. Grand Buddha statues, Chinese lanterns, lush plants and Asian accoutrements make for an exotic escape from typical club decor. Overhead, dangling white fabric provides fresh fluidity, while icicle lights twinkle with firefly elegance. Rich reds and deep wood hues merge traditional Chinese imagery with New Age simplicity. An impressive fountain overlooks the VIP section known as Prive, meaning "private," so good luck getting in! Otherwise, guests must purchase a bottle of alcohol to relax in the sleek, cushiony lounge areas that surround the dance pergola. The upper-level boardwalk offers a view over the central garden. Upstairs is the indoor restaurant and sushi bar, which transforms into a dance lounge after midnight. The second floor also contains the hip-hop Shanghai Room, distinguished by its hazy red-lantern glow. Each area pulses with a different DJ. -- Monica Cady

Terrible Experience
By djrobj on 12/10/2004
We went there after my wedding reception in a Decked out Limo and it turned out to be a horrible experience. Can you believe that after we had paid hundreds to be seated in the VIP section one of the staff members came over and told up we had to get out of the VIP and seat elsewhere. Here I am all dressed in a TUX, my wife in her beautiful dress on what is suppossed to be the best day of our life and this idiot is giving us grief. We kept saying that we alredy paid to be seated here, and he didn't care. This went back and forth for a bit, and then the final straw was that he grabbed my wife to escort us out. MAN I lost it and started wailing on the guy. To make a long story short, the cops got involved and so on. What a disaster. They are lucky I decided to not sue. Avoid this place like the plague!!!!

Still one of my favorites.

I can't say I've been treated rudely there, but I'll believe the people that say the place has got atttiude. But on an objective basis, great music, beautiful decor, fun crowd, and good drinks still make this place one of my favorite clubs at the beach.

Horrible place
By flyme2day2 on 10/01/2004
Beleive I made extremely good money. But, in this place you must show that you really have it. 3/4 of the people that go there do not even have a college education and pretend (drown in debts that they are rich. Whatever. The girls, even if you look horrible physically but appear to have money they flock to you. The bartenders are nice (naturally they want your tip), the rest of the staff including the cleaners think that they have a career. Also, good luck getting in. My suggestion rent an expensive sports car do the valet thing, tip the moron who parks your car (a dollar it is not enough) so break your piggy bank. It does not end there, tip the bouncer and maybe just maybe you'll get in.
