Ebbets has a long, distinct history and an irrationally rabid following among Springfield natives and transplants to the area. Obviously clientele loyalty and continual repeat business are due less in part to what passes as food than to the swollen ego and hyperdrive personality of proprietor/owner Nick Russo. Nick, a nice guy by most counts, is a New Jersey native whose car must have broken down in Springfield years ago and he simply couldn't afford to get it repaired. Nick, now stuck in the sticks, did the most logical thing-he opened a restaurant. Ebbets Field is the result of years of menu fine tuning and culinary misadventure. The one sure thing on the menu and the thing that keeps the college kids and alumni coming back year after year-BEER. Ebbets is more of a University sanctioned watering hole and gathering place than a restaurant. Great place to take a young date and get smashed but skip the food. Laughable wine list (who compiled this tragedy?).

The place hasn't been the same since Nick Russo sold it and the new owner shur down the micro-brewery. A far better choice would be Springfield Brewing Company. The food is far better and it offers some delicious brews.
