The Phyrst is the kind of place that really likes to make its patrons feel at home. Many regulars have their own pewter mugs hanging from hooks in the bar. Old photos of the Phyrst and State College over the years cover the walls, bringing newcomers up to speed and providing fodder for the reminiscences of longtime patrons. You can test your chops at the weekly open mike or submit them to the greater will of the ever-popular Saturday night "Phyrst Phamily Sing-a-Long" (get there early for this event). Of course, amidst all this family spirit and good will, theres plenty of beer. Guinness leads the list, followed by about 10 other drafts and over 20 different labels of bottled beer, from domestic to imported to microbrew. The Phyrst also offers a decent selection of local wines and a few high-end scotches. T-shirts, baseball caps and other bar merchandise help jog fuzzy memories of a long night at the bar.
