In the heart of the busy University City Loop, the Delmar Restaurant & Lounge holds its own as a stylish, enjoyable venue. The striking red colors of the cozy booths and bar area enliven the classic atmosphere, and a separate non-smoking section allows for a romantic meal. Young, urban hipsters flock to this hot spot on weekend nights. The Delmar really picks up in the late hours with premier jazz bands guaranteed to cure the doldrums of the working week. This chic corner spot has become a key node in St. Louis's reviving effort to reclaim its position as one of the nation's leading jazz cities; the Delmar has frequent live performances. This, along with the Delmar's buzzing bar, has overshadowed another of this place's many attractions -- its food. Yes, hipsters, the Delmar has a menu, and a pretty serious one at that. The food, like the jazz, is eclectic -- appetizers range from crawfish andouille to beef tenderloin quesadilla, while entrees run a gamut from Hoisen glazed salmon to New York strip. You don't have to worry about rushing your food, the bar menu is available until 3AM. So sit back and enjoy some jazz and some good chow at your leisure. On special occasions, talented DJs spin danceable records that energize the cozy venue. Choose from a diverse selection of drinks such as their specialty shot, the Sandinista -- recommended for courageous drinkers only.
