The Trainwreck Saloon has been one of Westport's most popular eating and drinking destinations since opening the doors in 1991. Though you wouldn't know it from the facade, the ambiance inside is authentically western, including the 30-foot oak bar up front, stained glass, plank floors and antiques. Lunch and dinner items include bison and ostrich burgers, a robust rib platter and double chocolate fudge cake, so the restaurant end of the Trainwreck does ample business on a daily basis -- especially when the patio is open. The atmosphere is decidedly different in the evening, as bands entertain Wednesday through Saturday nights; playing cover songs and packing the dance floor with West County clientele. Overflow is handled by another spacious bar in the back, and with 16 beers on tap and cocktails from cordials to martinis available, the party stays on track until the whistle blows at closing time.
