Whether you decide to eat here in your three piece suit or your jeans, 400 Olive welcomes both diners without hesitation. Inside this historic building, the restaurant uses a black and gold color scheme to accent its classic wooden tables and chairs. The large chandelier in the middle of the room gives the restaurant some presence. During lunch you might want to try the grilled chicken pasta, veggie club or cobblestone pressed sandwich (a baked sandwich with grilled onions and sweet potato chips). While things tend to quiet down in downtown for dinner, 400 Olive should attract more people back with its blackened rib eye steak and other classic menu items. While the menu remains straight and less creative, the food is created with care. The cocktails are concocted with great precision, and it has a decent wine list of more than 20 different wines. The portions here are well-sized for a fine dining experience, so for a nice, romantic, quiet dinner, 400 Olive is a great place.On New Year's Eve: Make the most of the holiday with a four-course meal and champagne toast at one of St. Louis' most romantic restaurants.
