Just four blocks from Tower Grove Park, in the midst of a myriad of ethnic restaurants along South Grand, is a small, but very vital, martini oasis. Officially, it's called Absolutli Goosed. To the regulars, it's just The Goose. Known throughout St. Louis as one of the city's best bars, Absolutli Goosed lives up to its name and reputation. Whether it's the sexy-red walls or the synchronized master bartenders, this place is absolutli hypnotiq (and yes, that liquor is used freely in the creative concoctions here). There are more than 120 cocktails arranged on the 22-page cocktail menu by taste and name (often from cartoons and movies). This isn't just a foofy-girlie-drink bar -- the owners take their goose seriously, and a manly man can get a vodka martini with nothing but a whisper of vermouth and an array of olives if he so desires. The chocolate Godiva martini, cosmopolitan and all classics are (obviously) must-haves. But if you're up for experimenting, the patient waitstaff is accustomed to such questions as ''Should I try the Pussy Galore served with a rim of whipped cream or the Halle Berry, a light chocolate martini that packs a punch?'' Take comfort in the knowledge that each one of the drinks is handmade to order -- nothing is pre-made or comes from a jug. One can easily tell how each martini is lovingly made, since each drink is a piece of artwork sitting in a glass. The food served is simple and made just to accompany the munchies that happen after a few drinks. There's a chicken quesadilla, cheese plate and vegetables with dip to name a few. Once the weather hits 65 degrees, the outdoor patio opens up and the festivities spill out onto the side street. This is the perfect place to get some sun or people watch while sipping on the signature spicy Bloody Mary. The crowds here are as diverse as the drinks they offer. Everyone, from gay couples to West County socialites, comes around happy hour or around 10PM for a drink to start off their night.

Still the best!
By jacicooper2 on 06/15/2007
For several years under the old management there seemed to be alot of problems. Since Ms. Spear has taken sole ownership of the business alot has changed. Robin the little red-head behind the bar is still making the BEST martini's in St. Louis! The door guy Michael could use and attitude adjustment, but the rest of the newer staff is more friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I have taken several groups here over the 5 years they have been open, but always make sure to call ahead for a reservation for large parties. Compared to some sub par competitors that have opened in St. Louis recently, I would have to say that the Goose is still the best place for variety of menu and the quality of the drinks. They don’t use cheap liquor here and it shows!
