Coats are required attire at Al's, located near the Edward Jones Dome. Perhaps it's the location, or the very meaty menu, but coaches, players, umpires and fans, as well as the typical business crowd, are happy to don a coat as they rip into their red meat. The red plush decor is either '70s chic or a tribute to the all of the red meat carnivorously consumed in large quantites at Al's. The menu is based on what's fresh and available and doesn't include prices unless you ask. Yes, it's pricey, but guest after guest insists that the quality of food and quality of service makes it worth it. If nothing on the list appeals or you just have a craving for something very specific -- if it's in the kitchen, Al's staff will accomodate. Salads are huge and elaborate and the list of appetizers is long. The fresh menu and unchanging high-class style obviously work -- Al's has been doing this for more than 50 years. -- HW

They have dropped the requirement of men needing coats. I was there just recently and did not need one.

STEAK & Atmosphere!
By KSully623 on 06/13/2008
It's amazing that people who have lived all their lives in St. Louis have never been there! The Steak Romano is to die for and the combination appetizer will bring you back time after time! And the mural in the bar is worth sitting for a "round or two"...The BEST restaurant in St. Louis, that I've been going to since 1977, and I haven't lived in St. Louis since 1979!
