Located next to the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Westport Plaza, Backstreet claims to house ''St. Louis' best live jazz and blues.'' You'll have to judge for yourself, but to find a club oriented to these genres in St. Louis County is a rarity. It'll save suburbanites a drive to the city, and maybe motivate urban residents to get out and see how the other half lives. Inside you'll find the sophisticated flair you would expect of the area, including contemporary tables and chairs, while two rooms with couches provide all the comforts you might require from a lounge. In an attempt to create a more urban setting inside, charming metropolitan-themed murals, complete with scenic exposed brick and street lamps, provide the ambiance. Though karaoke contests are occasionally scheduled, Backstreet musicians are usually of the professional variety. The talent is local and varies from electric blues to instrumental jazz.

BEST BY FAR!
By Clancyjavaux on 07/08/2008
This is the best club by far,as they often have great headliners like Saint Louis' one and only Billy Peak. He and his long time guitarist are two of the most talented men in the music business. Billy toured with Rod Stewart on his world tours, Rod requested Billy and his band play with him on his recent Saint Louis appearance. Rod Stewart knows Billy is the greatest guitar player around, it's just a shame not everyone is as savvy. Take my advice, check out Billy Peak the next time he's at Backstreet, or check his website. He's a talent not to be missed. Backstreet supports some of the best local talent, and we have some greats!

THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
By WThezoneman on 05/31/2008
First off, this is NOT A JAZZ CLUB ANYMORE!!!!!! The owner refuses to book jazz, because she says it doesn't bring in a big enough crowd. This is a strictly, Blues/Mowtown Venue--and how in the world it even got in the running for this award is simply beyond me. NOTE TO THE OWNER: PLEASE CHANGE THE NAME OF YOUR CLUB, UNLESS YOU PLAN TO START BOOKING SOME REAL JAZZ ANYTIME SOON!!!!!!!!
