Established in historic Kimmswick in 1985, you're not likely to find a sweeter all-American eatery anywhere this close to home. Inside and out, the pristine setting immediately reminds one of a southern plantation, and owner Mary Hostetter, the Greater St. Louis Restaurant Association's 1997 restaurateur of the year, keeps everything coming out of the kitchen completely down-home too. Breakfast is served daily from 10AM to 11:30AM and includes classic dishes like country ham and eggs as well as biscuits and gravy. The lunch menu includes homemade soup, sandwiches and daily specials like Southern fried chicken, meat loaf and chicken fried steak. Plus, there are plenty of kids meals, complete with "dinosaur eggs" on the side. Still, the dessert menu, including everything from assorted pastry dishes and pies to cookies and cakes, is likely to always be Blue Owl's biggest draw. Enjoy it all in adorably dubbed rooms like the "Owls Nest," the "Texas Tearoom" and "Miss Mary's Veranda." It's actually closed by dinnertime, so make plans to have supper early if you're going to stop by.
