Though proud to be renowned as the "oldest Gay bar in St. Louis," Clementine's is a watering-hole that welcomes anyone clever enough to take advantage of it's many fabulous attributes. Folks of all orientations know that "Clem's" is usually the heartbeat of any party in the neighborhood, and is especially lively during the Soulard Mardi Gras season. The adjoining Oh, My Darlin' Cafe is well-regarded for house specialties like the filet mignon and chicken pot pie, but the extensive daily specials make for a great opportunity to try a wide variety of items. Darts and pool are popular activities inside the bar for those with a competitive nature, and out back Clementine's boasts the "Meat Rack," one of the prettiest patios in Soulard. Daily drink specials, including the "Draft Beer Bust" between 1PM and 5PM on Saturdays and Sundays, make this beautifully constructed 1861 building seem that much more hospitable.

Great Place...Sometimes
By LGMstl on 07/10/2008
Clem's has some great people...mainly the oldtimers. There are some odd characters, but that adds to the charm. Most of the bartenders are great, while some don't speak and you wonder if you've done something to offend them. The food is probably the best southern-style dining in St. Louis and would rank 5 (*****) stars. Connie, the cook, and Debbie and Carl, the wait staff, are also the best in the Lou.

bitter old queens
By smokwa420 on 03/09/2006
Last time I was in Clems (about a month ago), I felt all the judging eyes of 50 old bitter queens. 4 girls (2 gay-2straight) and 1 guy (gay) was in our group & us girls had never felt so uncomfortable. I always liked going in there for the wonderfly strong drinks. But we stayed for only one & went to JJ's Clubhouse-which believe it or not-for a mens bear bar-it is actually more woman friendly. Clems clientele just seems to be mean middle age trolls...

Bartenders do seem to have agreater than thow attitude, but that goes with the tension a busy bar can bring. Gary the owner is pleasant if you get to know him. Regulars make up 80% of the crowd but always willing to add a new face. Drinks are strong and Miss Connie is a jewel. Only gay bar in town that takes sports seriously.
