Soul food is the star at Delmonico Diner, but it's been known to share the spotlight with its customers. Rap star Nellie has been a regular, and so were Rams players Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Orlando Pace. Even out-of-towners seek it out: According to owner Ray Jones, Chicago Cubs Manager Dusty Baker loves the homemade butter pound cake. Aretha Franklin, Snoop Dogg and the late Sammy Davis Junior all ordered takeout when they visited the 'Lou. It's no wonder: Delmonico's menu reads like a dream Sunday dinner. Fried chicken, greens, candied yams, macaroni and cheese, corn bread and peach cobbler -- recipes Jones learned at the hand of his grandmother Eva L. Bobo, who opened the restaurant with her husband in the 1960s. Jones says he still cooks (and lives) by the advice his grandmother gave him all those years ago: ''Make it look good, make it smell good and make it taste good. And stir it with love.''
