The Hill, St. Louis' famous Italian quarter, the mother neighborhood of Yogi Berra and plenty of other Italian-American luminaries, is known for its food. However, the restaurants there are generally known more for their family-style casual hospitality than for anything approaching elegance. There are a few notable exceptions to this rule, and Dominic's is one of them. Not that proprietors Dominic and Jackie Galati have sacrificed Hill friendliness; to the contrary, this restaurant is immensely welcoming. But it is also elegant, with a decor that lends itself to special occasions of all kinds. Jackets are encouraged for male diners, but in deference to an era known for casual work days, more low-key-clad patrons will not be turned away. The menu carries a variety of Italian favorites, with the flavor of Dominic's ancestral Sicily. From its inception in the early 1970s, Dominic's has played host to a galaxy of stars, from the Rat Pack to Cardinals baseball legends. A large private room may be reserved for parties and other events. -- HW

We just came back from Dominic's. We had really good food, service and the best waitress. Romantic, relaxed, good martini, etc. It is a "must try" on the hill.
