With its stucco facade and outdoor dining area, the Hacienda Mexican Restaurant brings Old Mexico to St. Louis. A large outdoor seating area's exposed roof beams allow customers to sip margaritas and enjoy free chips and salsa under the stars. The menu includes some American dishes, such as potato skins and Caesar salads, spiced up a la Mexico. Most of the dishes are truly Southwestern in flavor, with lots of chili and lime, including fajitas, quesadillas and other specialty items. Exotic ingredients, such as chorizo and cactus strips pepper some dishes. All are moderately priced, with the most expensive just under $15. The well-stocked "cantina" serves sangria, a multitude of margaritas and imported beers. Desserts include sopapillas, fried ice cream and a specially made Kahlua-flavored ice cream dipped in dark chocolate. Friday and Saturday nights are crowded, and patrons can expect a wait. Appetizer and drink specials make happy hour popular as well (usually from 4:30-6:30PM). Perfect for family or not-so- family dining, the Hacienda's wide variety brings Mexico closer to home. --Jennifer Dockery

Mexican
By Cathhdsn on 06/13/2008
I guess the issue here is what are people used to, Tex mex or authentic Mexican. It is probably one of the better authentic Mexican restaurants in town and always has a good social atmosphere, but as for me, I am still waiting for the Pappas family to open up Pappasito's in St. Louis like they wrote up in the Houston Chronicle. It was supposed to come here after they opened up in Atlanta and it never happened. According to the employees of Pappasito's in Houston, they couldn't get along with the unions in St. Louis.......... Pappasito's is the best Tex mex I've ever had, unbelievably good and their old wave margarita was very good in the 90's

Really bad food-really bad service-really bad drinks! AND I PAID FOR IT!!!!!Dont waste you time or money. Bad bland food that makes you sick later is what you will get. Watery Margatitas that tasted more like mix than a drink. They are very rude and just want your money and you out the door. The glasses were dirty. The server rolled her eyes at questions. I should have left then, but kept hearing how good it was so I stayed. I think the Hacienda staff are stuffing the ballet boxes for best in St. Louis. If I could give it less than POOR, I would. To make it worse, I took out of town guests there for a "Great" meal. Lesson Learned.
