So many crave the lunch buffet at House of India that a wait for a table was as expected as the curry chicken on the buffet table. That's changed since the owners expanded the dining room. Now even those on a tightly-monitored hour-long lunch break can easily pop in off the highway for a bite of St. Louis' most highly-rated Indian food. Traditional Indian dishes, both from the northern and southern regions of the subcontinent, are the staples of the buffet. And that means vegetarians and meat-eaters have plenty of options. The continually-replenished and very hot (both steaming and spicy) dishes include curries, kormas, kabobs, samosas, pakoras and plenty of nan (Indian bread). Save room for the popular Kheer, a creamy rice pudding dessert. Don't be fooled by the decidedly Western decor; the dishes are pure Indian delight. - HW
