Located across the street from the St. Louis University campus since 1976, Humphrey's Restaurant and Tavern is the city's most enduring college-kid retreat. The bar wears a number of hats to lure clientele. The overall theme is sports, of course, with televisions locked on local teams, entertaining arcade games, and memorabilia that salutes the history of SLU athletics covering the walls. The all-day endurance happy hour run features $5.75 pitchers, $3.75 double well drinks, $2.25 domestic bottles and half price on some appetizers Monday through Friday 11AM-7PM. The regular menu is simplistic, but works well for local business workers and students seeking quick lunch or dinner service. When evening arrives Humphrey's transforms into pure party mode, and when the weather cooperates, the crowds swell onto the back patio. The ambiance on Wednesday nights is renowned, as penny pitchers and cover bands bring on students, alumni and anyone else who's dead-set on serious consumption and socializing. From early afternoon to late into the evening, it's one of the most popular beer and burger establishments in Midtown.

Humphrey's is not closing, so erase all doubt and come over and have a drink. With the quite possibly the best food and cheapest prices in Midtown, it's hard to beat a fun night at Humphrey's

My daughter is a recent SLU grad, and we always made time for a burger at Humphrey's when we were in St. Louis. I hear through the grapevine that there is a move afoot to close Humphrey's. SLU needs to fight to keep Humphrey's open -- I always felt good knowing that if my daughter was out drinking, she just had to walk across one street and she was home!
