Located in the heart of Clayton, J. Buck's is a favorite with those comfortable in upscale meet-market surroundings. Named for the venerable St. Louis family broadcasting dynasty, this hot spot packs them in, both on the expansive outdoor patio and inside the dignified contemporary dining room and bar. As befitting its name, J. Buck's is a choice destination for broadcasters, athletes, executives and other members of the sports world glitterati for lunch, dinner and/or cocktails. The menu features sandwiches, salads, stone-fired pizzas, seafood, free-range chicken, steaks and chops. The steaks are certified Angus beef, and are hand-cut in house daily. Besides the steaks, house specialties include the Frontenac pasta, which is penne pasta served with zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes, wild mushrooms and tomato basil sauce, or a marinated and grilled Buck's pork chop served with sweet potatoes and a green peppercorn sauce. -- HW

Mediocre

I've been to both the Clayton and West County locations and haven't been impressed with either. The decor at both is quite fine and the service is good, but the food is average at best and overpriced. The french onion soup needed salt (imagine that!), and the crouton was hard as a rock and tasted bad. Their soup du jour (a cream of mushroom/gorgonzola) was way to heavy on the cheese. At $5, it was about $1 overpriced. The sausage pizza I had was decent, though they sliced the sausage so large that you couldn't get it in your mouth in one bit. It kept coming off the pizza, along with all of the cheese. Quite annoying. And again, at $10 for a 9" pizza, about $1-3 overpriced. Imos makes a better pizza. The clayton spot makes better food, but not that much better.

The Clayton store is nice but we love to go to the the store located in the west county mall. We have never experienced service like that before:)
