Rate and Write a Review The Missouri History Museum is one of the many gems of Forest Park, a dignified old structure that recently achieved the most difficult of architectural tricks: a tasteful, modern expansion. The handsome expansion, with its vast windows and blond wood, now houses many of the museum's important functions, including conference rooms, an outstanding gift shop and a restaurant, aptly named Meriwether's (the first name of Lewis, as in Lewis and Clark). It's open during normal museum hours on a self-serve basis, but it also has table service during lunch on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, when a meal taken at the same time of day becomes magically known as brunch. Smartly, the History Museum has departed from the standard, museum cafe routine of cold sandwiches and chips. Instead, expect meals that invoke the rich history of the state, such as Plainsman's chili, which includes three different types of bean as well as ground bison. Other offerings include grilled salmon puff pie and tortellini primavera. If your looking for a unique date, it's a studious spot to examine the potential of your date while you study the past of the Show-Me-State. Plus, there's a fine view of Forest Park to set a romantic mood. -- HW
