Unless you're a vegetarian, it would be hard not to find something you like at Phil's Bar-B-Cue. Think backyard picnic mixed with Italian restaurant and a dash of Lenten fish fry thrown in for good measure. As you walk in the screen door, the smell of barbecue sauce is overpowering. Immediately, you want a pork steak, and you want it now. But wait, ribs and chicken, bratwurst and... salmon? Yep. In addition to the barbecue standards, Phil's has fish plates, pizzas, mostaccioli, chili, salads and more. All these options can be viewed at the front of the restaurant where cooks stand behind the cafeteria-style counter. Tables are cozy, with plenty of booths available. The crowd is mostly families, since there's enough variety to cover everybody's tastes. Carryout is available and, for an additional charge, so is delivery. Phil's has a second location at 9205 Gravois Road.

Phil's in Eureka 2/15/07
By theself1 on 02/15/2007
One of my favorites. Great food, great casual atmosphere, and nice, friendly people. Been dining there and calling in orders for carry out the past many years. I'm starting to think the sauce is addictive... lol I've had lots of barbeque. But nothing else compares.

No more buffet at Gravois
By perky2balive on 12/30/2006
Phil's on Gravois used to have a buffet so I would go to catch it on the weekend since BBQ is pretty expensive. I wasn't that fond of it and they didn't have much of a selection, but finding a buffet BBQ was a hard find. Now that they took out the buffet there is no point in going. If I'm going to pay the price then I want the taste. This location now has neither. I would like to try the one in Eureka. I have heard that it was good and the commenters on here seem to agree. I personally would liked to have seen Fat Toney's in Soulard as a choice for best BBQ.

Phil's on Gravois in Affton
By mrsroyalb1 on 10/10/2005
Phil's on Gravois in Affton is the BEST BBQ in St. Louis. I've been going there since the 1970s. Their meat is always lean and tender, and their sauce is the best. Side dishes are always excellent too. And the staff has always been nice and friendly. Prices are fair also. Hope Phil's stays around for many years to come.
