Krieger's Pub & Grill   

Don't let the word "pub" throw you. Andy Capp would be totally out of his element here; these establishments are about as seedy as seedless watermelon. This area chain of restaurants offers clean, wholesome, family-friendly dining -- invariably located in the middle of a clean, wholesome, family-friendly suburban shopping strip. Sports are a major theme at a Krieger's. Patrons dine and drink beneath wall after wall of framed photos of favorite jocks. The cleverly designed menu leans, as you might expect, toward what might be called pub food -- pizza, burgers, thick sandwiches, steak, chicken tenders and the like. These are popular places; the chain has grown quickly since kicking off in Chesterfield a dozen years ago, and more locations are on the way. The chain's signature dish is the blackened grilled chicken sandwich, featuring Cajun spices, onions, peppers and that hardy regional curiosity, provel cheese. -- HW
