With its plethora of Cuban sandwich offerings and pizza joints, Ybor Citys Latin Quarter isn't exactly the first place you'd think to look for Greek food. But once you try Acropolis' authentic Greek dishes, youll look no further. Like a little piece of Athens transported to Tampa Acropolis spins kitsch elegance on its namesake temple, with stark white walls, and decorative columns andphotos of Greek landscapes and architectural wonders hung throughout. The small but airy dining room consisting of four-tops, while large picture windows let the sun stream in. The full menu is Mediterranean to the max, with casual fare such as appetizers, salads, sandwiches and, of course, gyros (which, for the last time, is pronounced "yee-ros".) Or choose from 15 entrees including shish kebobs, Greek meatballs, Souvlaki, stuffed grapevine leaves and customer favorite, Chicken Rhodes, sauteed with Greek herbs and topped with feta cheese. Florida seafood prepared Mediterranean style with loads of lemon and olive oil is another highlight. And, in keeping, with Ybor's penchant for live entertainment and scantily-clad women, Greek musicians and belly dancers perform every Saturday.

TERRIBLE SERVICE!
By katiedalady22 on 01/01/2008
I would just like to say first and foremost that I've been to Acropolis many times and have always had a great time. Although the time before last my friend and I both found bits of glass in our drinks. She found a large shard in her water and all the waiters did was apologize and comp some of our drinks. I was very upset, but I liked the place and didn't want to cause any problems. The entire evening started when a friend of mine mentioned that she had never been to Ybor City before. Well every time I think of Ybor I think of all the great times I've had smoking on hookahs, getting drinks and eating gyros at Acropolis. So, even thought its a Sunday and the day before New Year's Eve, I insisted we all go to Acropolis. When we get there all of the outside seating was taken. Then when we got inside we noticed there were only 3 or 4 tables full. So we requested to be "next in line" so to speak, but we were told that there were others waiting ahead of us. straaange, i thought. Considering there were only a couple other people there. It all kind of goes down hill from here. When being seated by the hostess I asked for a hookah menu and a drink menu. Then about 15 minutes go by and we still haven't been waited on. The hostess had to come by 3 times before someone actually took our drink orders. Then the waitress asked for my ID which I thought was cute because I don't look that young. I, of course, left it in the car with my purse so drinks were out of the question. WTF? I know! So obviously I was pissed at this point. A couple friends ordered some food. I recommended the gyros. I swear to you an HOUR went by and our waitress was nowhere to be found. Finally we saw her on the other side of the restaurant dancing with 6 other waitresses. SIX! We waited for over an hour even though 6 waitresses were on shift. I finally told another waitress that we don't want to wait any longer and that we just want to leave. No more than 15 seconds later our missing waitr

Good Food FILTHY Conditions
By shopsshe on 03/04/2007
1st visit I ordered Sandwiches & a side salad carry out - it was excellent. Decided to take my DH for a sit down lunch. I noticed that the silverware rolls were sitting on greasy plates. I mentioned it to DH and we hoped that there would be no problem with the meal. Salad was served first in bowls that had huge globs of grease. At first I thought it was part of the seasoning since there was so much of it. I called the waitress back, but she did not return until she brought out the entres. They were sitting on equaly filthy plates. Not wanting to waste time or make a scene, we asked to have the food taken back and brought out in To-Go containers. At this point everything had been greasy except our glasses. It was getting a little scary. The waitres took our food and a tall man came out and I was sure we would be taken care of. NO! He began to yell at us saying "How dare you insult me! You will not have your food in to go containers unless you leave." My husband was so shocked he said we would take it to go. But I said no I brought you here to get out and I want to sit here and eat my food fresh. The man said "Then you must wait to let me bring you clean dishes." We agreed undr pressure. I could not believe this man was yelling at US about embarassing him. He NEVER appologized for the dirty plates. He was making a scene and we were not - it was incredible. As we sat there - I realized he did not care at all about us or our wishes - merely himself. We waited a good long time and I started thinking that with his behavior he might do something to the food. I asked the waitres if the man was the manager - she said he was the OWNER! I was shocked - becuase I had wanted to complain about his behavior on top of the filth. After 15 minutes we lost all desire and just left. Beter to be hungry than have food poisoning and be yelled at when you were seeking a relaxing meal. Check your plates when eating here, who knows what the kitchen is like ?!?!
