Dillard's may be a department store, but it's not all fluorescent lights, stark white walls and confusing bends. The aisles in this store are marble -- softly lit by drop-down alabaster bowls -- that curve to a selection of drop-off points: petites, plus sizes, casual, sporting, business, intimate and night-time wear. As you lean to feel Ellen Tracy's elegant fabrics, or admire yourself in a pair of Ralph safari pants and a cashmere DKNY sweater, you'll realize that the environment adds as much to the clothes as does your body -- maybe more. Woven tapestries and melancholy landscapes drape the walls, a combination of dark wood and rich gold paper that stretches to reach the subtly arched ceiling. Considering all the ornate, refined decoration, you might expect employees to be a bit, well, stuffy. Quite the opposite. Staff members go out of their way to find that exact slinky V-neck you were looking for, and will even become your personal shoppers should you so desire. So comfortable and accommodating, you'd never know you were in a 100,000-square-foot women's wear department. Now, at long last, you can have fun while you exercise.
