A white-painted school bus with a restaurant attached houses El Taconazo. The Taco Bus, as it's lovingly called by the regulars, puts the brakes on Americanized versions of South of the Border specialties. The friendly, energetic family of owners serve economically priced takeout and table food with savory touches you can't get at those chain Tex-Mex restaurants. Beef and chicken burritos come stuffed with tender, marinated shredded meat, bursting with cilantro, pepper and garlicky goodness. Other items on the menu include tacos, quesadillas, carne asada and ceviche (fresh, uncooked marinated seafood). The Mexican proprietors are active among the Hispanic immigrants in the area, posting bulletins for events and educational services. Religious icons and decorative art of Central America, Mexico and Puerto Rico provide an authentic backdrop. The eatery is frequented by area blue-collar workers, as well as Seminole Heights musicians, local celebrities and a popular Mexican restaurant owner who probably wishes to be unnamed. Meals come with housemade refried beans and lime-infused rice. Daily lunch specials cost less than $5 each, and $10 typically feeds two people with leftovers for later. -- Julie Garisto
