Hook's Sushi Bar & Thai Food   

Sushi as fresh as whats served at this St. Pete Japanese/Thai nosh spot might very well be fresh off the hook. And the restaurants motto All Fish and No Bull gives a nod to the fact that the focus here is on the fresh, delicious sushi, without the pretentious attitude that so many nouveau Asian restaurants try to pass off. The vibe is laid-back and Florida beach casual (flip flops are not only welcome, theyre pretty much standard attire). Indulging in the crab Rangoon a cream cheese/broccoli/crab mlange, wrapped in rice paper and flash-fried is a must. Next, decide whether youre in the mood for Thai, Japanese or a bit of both. Order enough sushi and it will come in one of those nifty wooden boats. The sushi menu is huge here, and popular rolls include the simple Arizona roll (yellowtail, scallion and smelt roe) and the Dirty Old Man Roll, with raw dynamite fish layered atop a California roll. Thai standards include pad Thai and the bursting-with-exotic-flavors Tom Yum Goong soup, with lemongrass and shrimp. There are even some Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese options on the menu, too. And the ambiance is simple if sparse, with plain wooden tables and bamboo paneled walls creating a straightforward setting for the anything-but-average eats.
