Ho Ho Choy Chinese Restaurant   

Occupying a strip mall with Fletcher stalwarts Wooden Nickel and Brass Mug, Ho Ho Choy serves a staggering variety of Chinese-American favorites along with daily dim sum (small portion) offerings. The simple and clean medium-size restaurant displays an uncanny mix of low frills but elegance -- ceramic tile floors, cheap tables, intermittent bamboo and ivory elliptical lanterns -- all accommodating a healthy mix of university neighborhood regulars. It remains to be seen, however, if Ho Ho's owners will catch up completely from their big move from North Dale Mabry. The old location garnered acclaim from local critics, and the new one still has to prove its stuff. Evident, nonetheless, is plentiful dim sum, cheap with steamed or fried variety. Noodle dishes are done well on the Dim Sum menu, especially the wide rice noodle. Custard tarts are a delightful way to top it all off.--Julie Garisto (Photo: Julie Garisto)
