Lil Bo's - Not a dive anymore!
By lilbotvc on 01/18/2007
Lil Bo’s was a dive, but it’s not any more!!! The Traverse City icon has been restored to the friendly family tavern it used to be. Lil Bo’s has been in the Freund family since 1969. On April 1, 2005 ownership was passed on to the next generation; the daughter and son of Eugene (Geno) Freund. The business and the building were in very poor condition and it had a very bad reputation. The “new owners” closed the doors on May 8, 2005 and re-opened them on November 22, 2005. During the 6 ½ month renovation the exterior of the building received a new roof, new front siding, new sidewalk, new patio area for outdoor dining (weather permitting) and a new coat of pale green paint with a darker green trim. Inside a new pine ceiling, new oak floor, new paint, renovated restrooms, new formica, new seating (4 short bars) along the windows in the main area, new furniture, new lighting, a full gas kitchen, all new wiring and all new plumbing. The renovation and addition of the kitchen, named Capone’s Café, brought new life to Lil Bo’s. The locals have returned and more and more visitors are finding their way to Lil Bo’s & Capone’s Café. It has become the best place in town for true authentic Italian cooking. The famous “Bo Burger” is still a local and visitor favorite. The menu also includes fresh, made to order pasta, fish, chicken, and beef entrees, burgers, sandwiches, salads, soup, chili and deserts. The return of local only entertainment rounds out the “new” Lil Bo’s. The weekly line up includes Monday Night Jazz with Ron Getz (Voted “Best Monday Night Hang Out” for 2005 & 2006), Karaoke on Tuesday and Thursday, Open Mic on Friday, and local bands on Wednesday (Memorial Day to Labor Day) and Saturday. If you haven’t been to Lil Bo’s in the past few years, please stop by and see the changes for yourself. Our friendly courteous staff will be greet you with a smile and will treat you to the best food and service in town!

Low end

Definitely a dive, but without any redeeming qualities. The only other place in town I have been as uncomfortable is Streeter's.
