When city officials didn't like the food-to-booze ratio at Tonic of Uptown, the club/restaurant closed its doors to regroup. The solution was obvious: move to downtown Minneapolis, where almost any nightlife formula works. Located along the Warehouse District's busiest avenue (specifically, in Tabu's former site), the reincarnated club suffers no menu or noise level issues -- this is about pounding tunes, high energy singles 'interaction' and making sure everyone gets their favorite libations from the very busy multiple bars. While the plush furnishings are sparse and the dance floors could use a few more square feet, the vampire-friendly darkness of some areas contrasts with sensual deep colors and cool lighting in others. There's the 3-story allure of the former Tonic, and an upstairs VIP lounge with access to a warm-weather patio. A mix of DJs and tunes, 18-and-over nights (Thursdays) and CD-release parties mean a wide range of clientele. You can save the cost of a cover charge on Friday and Saturday by getting to the door before 11PM, but don't wear ball caps or dumpy attire, because dress code police are checking.
