Dinkytown's eccentric aura may linger, but restaurants there have become people-pleasing businesses. In the not-too-distant past, before places like Shuang Cheng arrived, dining choices didn't venture much beyond breakfast at Al's or pizza from Vescio's. Eateries have come and gone at this bustling intersection, but Shuang Cheng has found success by providing inexpensive, tasty meals that are much appreciated by hungry students and locals. Often named to ''Best of'' lists around the Metro, this canopied cafe offers a vast menu of renowned seafood in the form of fresh fish, lobster, clams and other delights. The many Cantonese and Szechuan dishes also offered are specially crafted with a variety of sauces that bring diners back regularly. Vegetarians, too, will find ample selections throughout a menu that favors the pocketbook. There's plenty of seating in the well-lit dining room, so getting served isn't an issue; the streets and nearby lots are packed seven days a week, making any parking spot a rarity. An off-hours visit may be the ticket.
