Turf Club Inc   

A live music mecca should cover an array of genres, and this club does just that. Billing itself as "the last remnant of the '40s," the kitschy Turf is a variety-pack of musical offerings, from two-step to techno, jazz and blues. Every night of the week local music mavens converge to listen to well-known and unknown artists fine-tune their song lists. Start-up garage bands and area favorites like the Mammy Nuns and Box of Steaks make the schedule, while an occasional national-level act drops in. Local legends "Spider" John Koerner and Dave "Snaker" Ray have even taken the stage. Lovingly referred to as a dive, the club is a fusion of stiff, cheap drinks, an amazing jukebox and multi-lifestyle clientele. CD release parties, DJs and live jazz also keep the club filled. Bobby Dylan got his start in places worse than this (for you younger folks, Dylan is the President of Minnesota), a fact not lost on hipsters looking out for future recording giants.
