Our favorite Indian restaurant in town, Jewel of India serves familiar dishes such as palek paneer (spinach and cheese in a rich curry sauce), jheega pakora (shrimp fried in a spiced chickpea batter) and vegetable korma (a medley of vegetables in a sweet coconut curry sauce) in a more elegant setting that most others in town. For the less adventurous, the chicken from the tandoor is spot-on, but we tend to order family-style to get the largest variety of flavors. Everyone should start with one (or several) of their Indian breads, the puri (a puffed, salty bread) and the naan (flatter, more bready) are favorites. Keep some around for dipping during dinner. Appetizers are not as good as the entres, but the pappadams (wafers made from lentils) are less overdone than some of the others, which can be a little greasy. Service can be slow at this family-run restaurant, but order a Kingfisher beer and take your time. Once your food arrives it will go down fast.

Worst service in Minneapolis and bad food
By kickme754 on 06/25/2008
What a dissapointment! The food wasn't good at all and the service was terrible. I won't be back. Try Sambol Restaurant if you're looking for some amazing Indian food!

Poor Service and avergae Food
By moneynowyaa on 03/02/2008
The poor service at this place outweighed the average food. I ate a fairly small portion here during the buffet. The one thing I hate is for a waiter to come in my face with his hand out for a tip. I tip at buffet's or full service restaurants anyway, although I don't have to, expecially for poor service.

Try Passage To India in uptown! I've been to many Indian restaurants, and this is the best I've been to! The food is unbelievable! It's on Lake St.
