Murphy's is a dive bar - never claimed it wasn't. Yes - it's often hot, crowded, and hard to find a seat, but it's also an unparalleled EXPERIENCE. Don't go there when you're in a bad mood, because you will inevitably see only the imperfections. Don't go in there expecting your typical DC-area pretension, because Guinness and good music make everyone friends. But Murphy's is completely worth the effort if you want to get swept up in the fun that is an Irish-American heritage. Pat Carroll is the BEST Irish folk singer on the continent.  More Reviews

When I lived in Rockville area in the 70's and 80's, one of the classic lay-back bars was old Hank Dietles's. The price is right, the booths are cozy/funky, and the you just can beat the juke box.
