Right in the heart of Dupont Circle is the bar with the world's largest beer selection. With more than 1,000 names on its dauntingly thick menu at any given time, Brickskeller claims to have served more than 4,000 different brands and styles of beer since its debut in 1957. Now, for the first time ever, it serves beer on tap. With eleven types available, their selection of brew in kegs promises to be as extensive and ever-changing as their bottled variety. Brickskeller is one of the most popular places to wet your whistle in DC, attracting crowds of all types, from laid-back college regulars to tourists, to the occasional parade of bachelorettes. The atmosphere is anything but humble, with red brick walls covered in beer paraphernalia, but we don't expect humility from a bar that's mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records. Most beers are under $5 each, so you can afford to sample. Take your taste buds on a trip around the world with a sweet Chilean Imperial, a light Czech Pilsner, a rich Norwegian Porter and a mysterious Zimbabwean Zambezi. Of course, you can also enjoy plenty of bubbling froth without leaving home -- there are roughly 350 American beers on the menu -- but if you order a Bud or Miller Light, you probably won't make many new friends (beer or human). -- Jamy Bond

Excellent Selection
By chipfrazier on 02/02/2007
I came here first to sample the Trappist selection and ended up getting an education on Belgian beer from the most knowledgable bartenders I have ever encountered. I have been back many times since and it is absolutely the best bar on the planet. Good cheap eats too.

World Record for WORST SERVICE
By potomacpete1980 on 07/08/2006
I was really excited to try this place out since the bar holds the Guiness World Record for 'World's Largest Beer Selection'... but it's kinda a crock since they seemed to be out of stock of a large number of the brands. The service wasn't very good either. I really got the impression that the only thing this bar had going for it was its 'record', and frankly there are a lot of better places in the Dupont Circle area.

Awful Experience
By ethanwoodside on 07/07/2006
REALLY obnoxious bouncer, slow service, steamed mussles served cold (WHICH WAS GROSS!). I used to love this place, but it just isn't the same. The waitstaff is still very nice, albiet the new guy checking IDs at the door is rude beyond description. My friend, who is 30 and looks probably about five years older than that, forgot his license when we went tonight, but had several other forms of identification. While turning him down for not having a driver's license might have been reasonable, the guy at the door literally laughed in his face. Considering that my friend had driven for an hour to meet us and try the bar, it didn't just ruin his night, it completely destroyed his ego to have some young punk laugh in his face and kick him out of the bar. Once inside, the service was slower than usual, a lot of the beers on their menu they didn't have in stock, and my food was served cold, which was disgusting. Overall it was just a miserable experience. Though I used to be a regular at the Brickskeller, I'm not sure I'm going to go there again after tonight's experience.

great place to kick back
By manichispanic824 on 06/12/2006
If you are just familiar with Budweiser or Coors Lite this definetly isnt your place. If you are open to all types of beers specifically imports, and cool with drinking beer out of a wine glass like I did with the St. Louis Chambourgne, then this is your place to be. And if your hungry the crab cakes are delicious.
