A good laugh at the end of the day, a fun night out with friends or a place to unwind and forget your stresses -- the Improv attempts to tackle all from its Connecticut Avenue home. There is no reserved seating so, if you want a front row spot (which, depending on the comedian, could make you part of the act) get there early. During the week, the show starts at 8:30PM. On Friday and Saturday nights, there are show times: 8PM and 10PM. The Improv used to offer typical bar food (i.e. not-so-good grub) but the menu has recently changed. They are now featuring a new kitchen by the popular restaurant, California Tortilla. Even a health conscious eater should now be able to find something they won't feel guilty about. A two-item minimum comes inherent with the whole deal, so plan to at least have a couple drinks and share some nachos. There are usually one or two opening acts before the night's headliner, often a top name in contemporary comedy (Colin Quinn, Dave Chappelle, Dave Attell, Paul Mooney). Be sure to drop your business card in the bowl by the front door. It could mean a free return trip for you and 10 of your friends. No joke! -- Dana Ellyn Miller

This place is like a second home to me, I love the atmosphere, the staff and especially the comedy.

okay by DC standards

I think some of those 5 stars were posted by staff... because I've seen 3 people there and they seemed pretty second-rate, truthfully. Then, again, I'm from Chicago and therefore probably just spoiled by 2nd City, etc.

I am not sure what kind of cheese is on the nachos but it is damn good! Also, funny acts that will take you on an emotional roller coaster. Hopefully, you don't puke by the end bc you are laughing too hard.
