As if there weren't enough clubbers crowding the sidewalks of the Connecticut Avenue/18th Street confluence when along comes Five. People clamber to get into this nightspot located smack-dab between Eighteenth Street Lounge and Sesto Senso. With its mix of hip-hop, top-40 dance and salsa thumping out of a state-of-the-art sound system, Five attracts the young and restless who just want to dance (and flirt) without having to lay down their life savings on clothing from Bebe and Armani. Although its local competition is fierce, Five is not for the uber-hipsters who frequent 18th Street or Dragonfly nor is it for the dress- to-impress set who hit Sesto, MCCXXIII and Ozio's. Five is for the middle class, the crowd who's sick of cramming into small Adams Morgan clubs. Still, even with its large dance floor, this place gets packed. Open Wednesday through Sunday, Five goes underground on Friday and Saturday, where the occasional cult-figure DJ shows up to spin until the morning light (literally). If you're not big on dancing, there's a wrap-around balcony on the upper level from which to survey the scene. And if you're a dance machine, the club's rooftop deck is a great place to catch a much-needed breath of fresh air.

I got groped by security!!!
By saraisqt on 03/04/2007
I'll preface this entry by saying I was sober the entire time I was there. We arrived after having emailed for guest list days in advance only to be told we weren't on it. The door bitch was nice to me, but had been so nasty to every other set of people in line it was unreal. Not New York fashionista mean, just saying some horrible stuff. She actually made the girls in front of me cry. Later, while in a bathroom stall some girl is so sick that vomit started rolling under the door. there was no sign or anyone who worked there. The patrons were kinda yikes. There was a lot of self important horrible straight up raver dancing, which matched the god awful dj's that mixed like they were getting **** **** under the decks or in advanced stages of Parkinson's Disease. There was a bongo player on the roof deck who was so wasted that he was ruining the crappy music even more. The crowning achievement was when I walked past the bar and a security guard groped me. It wasn't even a light cop a feel or ass smack, it was a full on grabbing so much of my ass in one hand and tit in the other that he could have picked me up! Had he not clearly been a 7 foot huge black guy compared to my skinny 105 pound frame I would have decked him regardless of if he were security or not. I don't know if Nation closing caused five to go to hell, but i think it did. the bongo player, afro dyke at the door were, as well as my loving security guard need to go!!!!!!!!

first & last experience w/Five
By noturse on 01/03/2007
NYE a few friends and I arrived at Five already there was drama. A customer was crying and cursing because she could not get her jacket. This was sign to turn around and leave, unfortunately we did not. We met a few employees who were great and went out of their way to make us comfortable. All was well until my friend tried to get some water. What place does not take credit cards?! The bartender was rude. I guess since she figured we had no cash so there was no reason for her to be nice. Then at 4:30 the lights came on and everyone was told to leave. A bouncer blocked my exit path via the stairs while harassing my friend. He was right behind her barking, literally making barking noises at her, as she was leaving down the stairs. I said "Excuse Me" and he turns around screams "No, Excuse You". He was very confrontational. I told him to get out of the way. He was blocking the whole staircase. He told me to ******* leaving. I said I would if he moved out of my ******* way. He got within inches of my face while spitting and screaming at me. I wiped the spit off my face and stated how gross that was. I maneuvered around the bouncer to the top of the stairs. The bouncer verbally and physically assaulted me. I started screaming because he was physically pushing against me while I was standing at the top of the staircase. This prompted another worker to speak to the bouncer. I moved down the stairs. The bouncer was arguing with the other worker while threatening to kick my ass. I turned around and said with shock "I can't believe YOU'RE security". I thought the bouncer was going to come down the stairs after me. I was within seconds of calling for the police. It is hard to believe that a major corporation such as Primacy Companies would employee workers so unprofessional. This is unfortunate because the music was superior, but not worth the misery. Save up your money and go to Fur's Glow instead.
