As you step into the Aroma Company, muted red light welcomes you into the bar's dim lit, laid back groove that extends from the cozy leather chairs in the front window to the 1950s styled back room (a.k.a. the "More Lounge"). While the front room, with its cracked mosaic bar, dramatic coned shaped lamps and modern looking bar stools vies for a wallpaper spread, the More Lounge looks like your grandparents den. When you enter it's as if you've stepped back to a time when vinyl chairs were new and beatnik paintings were the art du jour. This is where DJs spin chilled out music for the neo-lounge crowd. The bar does sell cigars and is very cigar- friendly, and the drink menu may include its share of designer martinis, but there's something different about Aroma. Maybe it's the locale. You expect a neo-swinger's den to be located near the business district, close to the workplaces of the hard working professionals who frequent it. Aroma brings the after work hangout to the neighborhood making it less of a 6-9pm place and more of a 6pm to whenever place. Even though it is usually low key, the bar can get crowded on weekend nights, so don't come here looking for too much solitude. J.E. Coan

scary experience at Aroma
By fivesixsevn8 on 10/23/2006
I had a scary encounter with an overly aggressive bouncer at Aroma this weekend--he was rude and unreasonable, I snapped back, and he grabbed me by the shoulders and SHOOK ME. So scary that management allows its employees to assault women they think are being uppity. Don't go here!

A DC Joke

The Bar is crowded and to narrow to navigate, good luck trying to get a drink from any of the bartenders on a "slightly" or even busy night. I spoke to the Manager and he was about as helpful as a dose of Nit-quil. Don't waste your time or money and head downtown.

Cool spot to chill after a long night or to kick off the night. Not a cigar bar in that they only have 4-5 different cigs available.

I would have only given this spot 2 stars, but one of the bar girls was FINE. I'll make it a point to tell her next time...
