The magic and spirit of jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis and more await visitors of Bohemian Caverns. Renovated and reopened in 2000 after decades of vacancy, this hot spot for live cool jazz is back. The lower level Caverns Jazz Lounge has a cave-like setting, with simulated stalactites, sparkly quartz walls and petrified wood tables. The glamorous chandelier-hung main floor restaurant feeds you before the show -- choose star fare like the John Coltrane (chicken breast with sour berries) or the Billie Holiday (baby back ribs). But live jazz is the draw for true fans. The acts scheduled pay tribute to greats like Coltrane and also introduce you to up-and-coming talent. For a change of pace, DJs spin dance action at the upper level Club 2001. Bohemian Caverns is pricey, both for dinner and for shows. But for a special treat, come soak up Washington's unique jazz heritage. -- Tracey E. Meloni

The Spot

The tasty food and chill vibe make Bohemian Caverns one of my favorites. The menu is extensive and caters to vegetarians. The poetry and live band are on point. I'll be back.

A Great Evening Out
By wdmayhan on 07/20/2004
My husband's brother was coming to town for the weekend and we wanted to take him and his girlfriend out on the town. I had heard about Bohemian Caverns from friends and family but never been myself. It exceeded my expectations. My husband bought our tickets for the show on-line (very reasonably priced). We had a FABULOUS dinner in the restaraunt and after informing our waiter (who was terrific) that we were going to the show, he went downstairs and reserved the best table for us! The show was TERRIFIC, a lot of old school jazz and blues. You can order food and drinks from the restaurant in the club but the atmosphere is not conducive to enjoying such a fine meal. Get there early, eat upstairs and then enjoy coffee or drinks in the club afterwards while watching the show. This is a great place for dinner and a show and not nearly as expensive as some other jazz/supper clubs in town.

Excellent (IN ALL AREAS)
By jeff01023 on 06/11/2004
My Buddy came in from out of town and we went to check this place out because I heard mixed reviews. When we got there we got seated for dinner right away, and our waitress happened to be the owners daughter and a manager but was just filling in. WOW!! was she great and HOT!!! She gave the best service and was really cute. The Menu also had a great selection and when the food came out it was also delicious. We were not suppose to go downstairs but the waitress conviced us to go down to see it. It was so worth it. The coolest place ever with good service too, but just not as beautiful.

Johnebad's Review

The food was great. The band played old rock/roll. The service was the worst ever! The wood log seats should be burned. Will never go ag
