Even if the only thing going for Dos Gringos was that it's about the sole place in Mt. Pleasant that's even heard of Chai Latte, it would probably stay in business. But Dos Gringos also has deep roots in the community and excellent meals of the quick service variety that keep it busy all week long. Housed in a bungalow along the busy retail section of this heavily Hispanic neighborhood, going in requires a commitment of mounting the steep steps. But make the commitment. Dos Gringos is a casual, cheerful cafe full of hipsters, families with small kids and locals. Expect a relaxed, informal feel, with friendly service to match. Open for all three meals, Dos Gringos caters to vegetarians and vegans as well as carnivores. In warmer weather, dine at one of the few tables outside and try some of their hand-scooped ice cream. Those too rushed to sit down and dine can scoop up pre-made meals dubbed ''Baggers,'' phone in their order, or even have an event catered. The menu consists of homemade soups, variety of salads (from fiesta bean to curried rice) and a nearly endless array of sandwiches, along with daily specials. Adventurous eaters might go for the bean and avocado torta, or the frittata of the day. On weekends, breakfast is served until 1PM, and many a hipster tired from the previous nights activities is gratefully lined up to partake of Belgian waffles, bagels, fresh fruit and gourmet coffee. Active in the Mt. Pleasant community, Dos Gringos also sponsors Intercambios, a Saturday evening conversation exchange where locals can come and practice their language skills or learn a new one. Closed Mondays. K. Clare Johnson

Good Food and Good Prices
By Donbmcdon on 07/07/2008
Grab a fresh hot coffee and a homemade cupcake. It wil make your day! I especially love the grab and go sandwiches in the morning. Very good value for a very good price. Oh, and don't forget the Ice Cream. It is some of the best in the City.

dos gringos food is okay for the money...
By Mrstjohansen on 06/26/2008
Dos gringos customer service is horrible. I don't patronize it anymore because the old man that works there has a very nasty disposition and can be quite rude. I also saw the owner inebriated and staggling down Mt.Pleasant street one sunday afternoon, That's not a good look for the business. So I've decided to take my business elsewhere.

dos Gringos is awesome
By ManBik on 05/28/2008
Day and night the place is great. Everyone speaks spanish and english. I especially love Saturday nights. They have Intercambios to learn other languages. Bring your friends and practice your foreign language skills. You can also borrow a scrabble or monopoly game. The dude in the Ice cream shop downstairs is one of the coolest people in Mt Pleasant and plays awesome music. Get a Hot Waffle Sundae borrow a game and relax.

Dos Gringo's is not that great
By nakainova on 02/15/2007
Reading the initial review I have to say that while the food is decent, the service I experienced was not and that as you know is just as important as the food. The person at the counter was extremely rude when I tried to order and made me feel as if I was not really wanted there. Considering that they are one of the few nonHispanic(read white) businesses in Mt. Pleasant, I found it surprising that they would treat a person of color in such a manner. Upon promptly recieving my breakfast (fifteen to twenty minutes later), I ate and left. A few months later I decided that maybe my initial experience wasn't all that bad and tried again to eat there. I am very sorry to say that nothing had changed. It seems to me that Dos Gringos' lives up to it's name. Specifically in terms of who they want to eat there: gringos, "hipster" or otherwise. The ONLY nongringos who enter through it's doors are the ones found behind the counter; serving the gringos. The situation at Dos Gringos is an insult to the hispanic community in which it resides. But please don't take my word alone for it. By all means, decide for yourself. Go down there and grab one of their "chai lattes". Later once you've paid your tab, go down the street to the neighborhood's best kept secret: Heller's Bakery. It's neighborhood friendly and the service is wonderful. Not to mention great food. In short, everything Dos Gringos is not.
