Rate and Write a Review Let's face it. These days, it's hip to be Irish. It seems that every year when St. Patrick's Day rolls around, everyone's claiming to have a touch o' the green in them. Whether they are rediscovering their roots, or justifying one more Guinness, the craze is catching. Washington DC has seen a surge in Irish pubs popping up all over the city, packing in the college crowds and suits alike. Bars will come and go, as will fads, but there is one place that seems to be standing the test of time. DC's own answer to the old country, The Dubliner.Nestled on the corner of North Capitol and New Jersey Avenue, this two- story, comfortable pub is one of the most authentic slices of the Emerald Isle this city has seen. Founded in the mid-70s, The Dubliner has become a capital mainstay, full of friendly faces and lilting Irish tunes. It boasts one of DC's liveliest happy hours, with a mixed crowd of young and old, bike couriers to political big- wigs bumping elbows and sharing pints. Daniel Coleman, the owner of The Dubliner, saw the possibility for an authentic Irish pub to succeed in a city as diverse as DC, and so The Dubliner was born. Family owned and operated since its incarnation, the pub still boasts an enthusiastic and energetic staff, made up of locals and Irish- born alike. So, when you're looking to feast on authentic Irish delights, dance a jig and raise a pint, head to The Dubliner, where Irish eyes are always smilin'. -- Pam Hewitt
