Pizza lovers, Ella's is here to tempt your taste buds with wood-fired versions of your favorite pies. Chef Ed Hanson -- formerly of Jaleo and Sam & Harry's -- takes his flair for flavor to Ella's with 10 traditional handmade pizzas. Try the savory margherita with tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil, olive oil and sea salt, or the mouthwatering Bosco, with wild mushrooms, roasted garlic puree and fresh thyme. Jazz it up with the soppressate topped with sausage, shaved fennel, roasted peppers and Parmesan, or get creative with the Genovese bubbling with pesto, potato, Parmesan and prosciutto. Ella's also welcomes you to build your own pie with your choice of gourmet toppings, including arugula, pancetta, sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts. You'll also find some interesting appetizers and salads, such as lentil salad with crispy eggplant. Ella's provides a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with red swivel bar stools and comfy leather booths. -- Jamy Bond

give this place a try!
By pizzaloverdc on 10/22/2009
reading some of the older reviews, I am aghast at the way this place has been misrepresented! I live in DC and have been a regular customer of Ella's since they opened in 2003. The service is attentive and friendly, the ingredients are fresh and flavor combinations wonderful! They are known for their pizza but also have a great selection of salads, appetizers, pastas and calzones. If you are a dessert fan, their double chocolate pudding is to die for! Conveniently located near a metro station, I love to bring my family here when we're checking out the museums or going to a game at the Verizon center. Give it a try, if you understand quality hand-crafted pizza, you will not be disappointed!

Cleveland has the best pizza in the usa, but ella's is good for the DC area. If your in Cleveland try Angies or Antonio's.

Kinda Greasy
By cauthenm on 05/06/2007
I agree with the previous reviewer. The pizza was okay...but very greasy. The service was okay. The pizza is about 10". Kinda tasty, but just so hard to get past all the grease. For a better pizza, head to Piola's in Arlington on Wilson Blvd...now THAT'S a great wood-fired pizza!!!
