Surrounded by office buildings and international agencies teeming with bright young things, lounge and DJ haunt Eyebar, located on I also known as "Eye" -- Street, is in the perfect place to make a killing. With few clubs in the immediate vicinity, almost daily drink specials and a roster of fashionable regulars, Eyebar has all the elements to make it an after-work and weekend hit. Luckily, the club also has an impressive pedigree. Owners Andre Demoya and Lieven DeGeyndt have been major-league contributors to the DC nightlife scene at such clubs as Tracks and Spy Club for more than a decade. They have brought their expertise to Eyebar, and have filled it with modern furniture, upbeat house and trance music, low lighting and a full bar. Though the second-floor club lures in an attractive, well-heeled clientele, there is a small VIP section for those who prefer not to mingle. But, despite its elitist leanings, including a strict dress code, Eyebar does not charge a cover. So be prepared to queue up. Dress Code: No sneakers, flip flops, hats, tank tops, athletic wear, shorts, ripped, worn out or baggy jeans Happy Hour: Wed.-Fri. 5-7PM

Terrible...
By A1313spenslopes on 04/28/2009
After reading this as one of the "City's Best" on aol cityguide. We stopped by to check it out on a Saturday night. The place was small with terrible music, the bartenders were slow and inattentive and we had arrived early. The place was not busy when we arrived. I half expected for Steve and Doug Butabe to stroll in from "A Night at the Roxbury". In short bad music, bad service, the environment and atmosphere were mundane and boring. This was definitely not as it was advertised. In short stay away, if that is truly one of DC's best then buy a bottle, rent a movie, and stay at home.

I've have a completely different experience here.

I seriously don't understand the two one star reviews on this page. Jennadc - I honestly can't believe that someone would bother to rate a place based on standing outside of it for 20 minutes? What the other reviewer doesn't seem to understand was that the apparent guestlist for that night was something done by one of the promoters throwing a party there, not the bar itself. I myself regularly attend parties and happy hours there and I've never had a problem getting in nor have I seen any sort of situation like the one described in that review. And I've never noticed anyone too scuzzy there but then again maybe you'd think I'm scuzzy because I don't wear f**k-me heels and a pound of make up when I go out to drink. As for the girl whining about the bar tender sticking up for herself? If you're going to leave someone a poor tip, fine. There's no need to present it to the person you're leaving it to like you're lording something over them. And I highly doubt that the bar tender was ignoring you and your friends. She was probably making her rounds during a busy open bar period. Your party managed to get 4 rounds of drinks in an hour and a half. I'm not sure where you normally drink in DC but that's speedy service in a lot of bars around here. Especially during open bar. On a Saturday. On New Years Frikkin Eve. But that all being said, to me eyebar is a chill little lounge with constant good music and a plethora of good people. I've never had a bad experience with any of the bar tenders (infact, I usually have excellent experiences with them). The clientele can be a little hit or miss depending on the event. My suggestion would always be to stay away from the top 40 nights and come out for the electronic music nights.

WTF!?
By vivisectrob on 03/24/2009
@hoimei - Seriously? You have probably just summed up the worst qualities of DC clubgoers in one post. The people that show up for free things, expect the world catered to them, and then act miffed when they don't get it. The thing that you clearly don't get is that bartenders work for tips. You and your cohorts got free alcohol and then had the flaps to leave a penny tip? You and your inconsiderate ilk deserve nothing - especially on NYE. What, did you suddenly think that you were the first person on the planet to come up with going out to a bar for NYE? Of course it's going to be crowded. Of course you're going to have to wait for drinks. If you want drinks faster, either blow some guy to buy them for you, muscle your way in to the bar and get the bartender's attention, or tip. I know I've personally found the way to the top of each and every bartender's serving order - and that is to pay them for the job they do. @jennadc79 - Good, we don't want you there either. Take your west coast she-she attitude and shove it.

poor customer service
By hoimei on 01/01/2008
After reading about this bar as an editor's pick on washingtonpost.com, we decided to get nye tickets. I wanted to comment on my recent experience at EyeBar. We purchased pre-paid tickets for nye and got there early for the free open bar. The bar tenders were all scantly clad women who were exceptionally nice to men but ignored all the women. We waited 1.5 hours and *********** free drink. At 10:30, after we had waited and were still at the bar, the bartender was told by security that the free bar was over. She was so exhilarated she was saying "YES" and "FINALLY". This was not a problem, we got four rounds of drinks. The problem came when I closed out my tab and told my friend that I was tipped 0.01 for the poor service that we had received. She then withheld my credit card and Drivers license and said that I should not "talk to her that way." I said "excuse me? I can tip whatever I want and I would appreciate my license and credit card back." She took my receipt and showed it to the other bartender, who laughed that I gave her 1 cent, because apparently they don't realize that this means bad service. I eventually got my license and credit card back and talked to the manager about the bad service we received and the RIGHT of everyone to leave whatever tip they want: Whether this is nothing, $10 or $1.He apoligzed for this rude service and told me that some people do not deserve to be in the service industry. I told him that I would never recommend to any of my friends to go there and he told me that was fair enough. I hope that if you read this, you will realize that customer service is a problem here and that you deserve better service than what I received. No person should feel like they HAVE TO leave a tip or for defending what they left and deserving to be treated equally, whether you are woman, man, White, Black, Indian or
