Hovering above Connecticut Avenue, the deck of Gazuza buzzes with energy on any given warm- weather night. Neo urbanites gather to talk and drink in this sleek, but friendly, tapas bar/club. While the inviting deck is quite roomy, the interior is cozy. Low seating -- a mix of leather chairs and stools and one very long in- wall bench -- and low tables make this smallish club seem larger than it is, a necessary effect with the square bar taking up almost half of the interior space and the deck nearly doubling the club's size. Cooler weather makes Gazuza all the more snug. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. An international crowd gathers here to talk and share tapas, both activities enhanced by closeness. A DJ (who at times doubles as a doorman, a not-so-easy task when the door is a flight of stairs away) plays ambient house music while the sound of clinking martini glasses bounces off the slate-gray and blue floor tiles. This is definitely a chill-out kind of place. -- JE Coan

My Go-To Spot
By thedclounger on 08/21/2007
My favorite happy hour spot on weekdays. I usually order a passion fruit mojito (mango is good too). I heard that the party gets live on Saturdays.

Sweet Establishment

Best sushi I have ever had in my life. Every drink I had was amazing, especially the mango martini. Drinks are fairly expensive, but I suppose the atmosphere makes it worthwhile.

we had to relocate
By iheartbeantown on 06/25/2006
My friends and I went on a Saturday night. I had waited all night to have sushi which Gazuza had listed on their website but to my surprise the bar does not serve food on weekends. That would have been great to know in advance...perhaps the information should have been on said website?! I ended up going downstairs to Chipotle, where other hungry bar patrons had resorted, to dine on a few bites of a burrito before heading back upstairs. Since we had a large party we were offered a table which happened to be under a large speaker. Although they said they would try to make our stay more comfortable, the waitstaff would only turn the volume over our heads down "two notches." Needless to say conversation was out of the question. We had to relocate to Timberlake's Connecticut and up a block. The patrons there were no match for the eye-candy at Gazuza but we were able to resume drinking glasses of wine and have good conversation without the headache.
