Home to Washington's largest ballroom and meeting facility, the 1,000+ room Washington Hilton is almost always full. Its ability to handle huge groups while making each guest feel pampered and special is legendary. The Washington Hilton is the recipient of numerous awards, including several for its environmental awareness. Opened in the mid-60's, The Washington Hilton benefited from a complete renovation in '94-'95. The result: the hotel's distinctive, curving modern shape and spectacular garden setting is now matched inside by first-class accommodations. All rooms have premium TV, dataports, daily newspaper delivery, minibars and all expected amenities. Tower rooms add fluffy robes, complimentary beverage service, and a special lounge. The hotel's suites are truly luxurious, with Jacuzzi tubs, phones in the bathroom, fax machines, refrigerators and complimentary beverage service. The seven-acre property offers tennis courts, swimming pools, a sauna, steam room, health facility, shuffleboard and jogging trails. Its high-on-a-hill location gives every room a pretty terrific view. While upper Connecticut Avenue is a bit away from sightseeing and monuments, the hotel is close to Metro stops and very handy to Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan nightlife. The Washington Hilton has played host to every big group from Inaugural Balls to the National Prayer Breakfast...the very same breakfast President Reagan was leaving in 1981 when John Hinckley attempted to assassinate him. The attentive staff takes it all in stride. Staying here is almost like being on a land-bound cruise ship, with access to all that Washington has to offer. -- Tracey Meloni
