Terrible Service
By legendofphenom on 08/29/2007
When Jacks first opened, it was pretty good. Then, the owners sold it to the folks that own the middle eastern restaurant just next store. I thought the food was pretty good, and the salad that has the cheese as a shell was excellent. The service was just awful, it wasn't busy at all and we had to wait for long periods at a time to order a drink or to ask for additional napkins. Not to mention our server disappeared completely. There were employees just standing around talking and not paying any attention whatsoever to the few tables that were in the restaurant. This place could be so much better if they just knew how to run a staff. Very disappointed.

Mediocre
By moonbelly73 on 05/09/2007
I went to Jack's 5/8/07 for the first time, excited to try out the new place. Sadly, I will not go again. All those who complained about La Pigalle or Peppers should wish that either one of those restaurants return to this 17th St haunt. Seriously. My experience at Jack's was mediocre in every respect. The menu is lackluster. The service is inexperienced. Even sitting on the sidewalk on a cool but beautiful spring night, there was no atmosphere. I had the beef pommery salad. It was edible, but nothing more. My companion had the goat cheese salad with chicken, cooked to a tough consistency. Our salads did not arrive at the same time, and not because the restaurant was busy. We had to ask for bread, and when it arrived, some of it was quite literally petrified. Bottom line: don't bother.
