Football coaching great Don Shula has launched a successful group of steakhouses nationwide and these have now touched down in the Washington metro area. The big news here is big steaks, as in custom cuts of Angus beef, from a filet mignon to a 48-ounce porterhouse steak. For a double dose of beef, start off with the Shula's steak soup, which tastes a little like Hungarian goulash without the pepper. You'll find the requisite Caesar salads in many different guises. The menu boasts options besides steaks, including such entres as salmon and a chicken and lobster Oscar or lighter dishes, such as the "knife and fork" sandwiches, which are too big to pick up easily. At least, the rare hamburger was a real handful and with the side of hot, crispy fries, enough to satisfy any yearning for steak and at a much lower price. For the finishing touch, cheesecake and Key lime pie are tempting. Also located at Tysons Corner Marriott, 8028 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA, 703-506-3256.

I never ate here after it became Shula's but I'm sure it's just as good as it was. Back then it was called The Washington Grill and it was excellent - especially the breakfast buffet. Also, the hotel was then a Sheraton. Very nice business class hotel, but don't expect Motel 6 prices. Maybe I'm biased because this is the first hotel my girlfriend and I ever stayed at. The location is excellent - close to Downtown AND Dupont Circle. See the monuments by day and go out clubbing or to dinner after.
