Set in a small storefront on the rejuvenated stretch of Barracks Row on Capitol Hill, Tapatinis offers a neighborhood crowd a casual, yet stylish, place to hang out with tasty martinis and a diverse tapas menu. In the narrow lounge, groups cluster in circular booths and on red benches, and spotlights in rotating colors bathe the space in a warm glow. A handsome granite bar accented by multi-colored pendant lights anchors the back of the room, and a small patio in the back allows guests to enjoy nice weather. On any given night, patrons may find happy hour deals offering $5 top-shelf martinis or the owner giving away free drinks from sample cases of wine or liquor. The bar mixes classic martinis along with sweeter flavors, such as white chocolate and sweet apple. For a snack with your martini, order a few small plates from the tapas menu, which offers smoked salmon carpaccio, fried calamari, crab croquettes, hummus and pita, eggplant caponata and peppered beef filet with asparagus. -- Amanda McClements

Wouldn't Know....
By catherinebdiva on 10/23/2006
Email to Owner: I showed up prior to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 20th, ready to greet my guests already en route from several different suburbs of Virginia and Montgomery County to find that the table that I had reserved through you (and that we exchanged emails about over the last month) had not been saved. I was further disappointed that there was no one with any authoritative power or managerial function to help. I found myself wandering the streets of SE Capitol Hill on a Friday night looking for a restaurant that could help salvage my embarrassment and the inconvenience of my guests. Also interesting to note is that the server with whom I spoke (who was as helpful as anyone put in that position could be) said that things like this have happened before. I might mention that the restaurant that was able to attend to us on such short notice received a nice tip on top of the bill that came to well over $400. Is there anything you might want to do to redeem my impression of your establishment? Response: I apologize for your disappointment. Tapatinis filled to the max within 45 minutes after opening and they accidentally gave away a reserved table. Conclusion: Poor Customer Relations
