In the mood for burgers and beer? You probably couldn't do better than this Barracks Row sports pub. You can get little patties-on-brioche with trimmings: onion straws, pickles, and ketchup. Have the bartender pull a pint of one of the 24 beers on tap, an eclectic mix that includes Magic Hat #9, New Castle Brown, Stella Artois, Bud Light and the Ugly Mug's own special brew. Other bar snacks include steamed peel-and-eat shrimp caked with Old Bay, mini-crabcakes, and a deep fried mozzarella sandwich with tomato sauce. There are more substantial plates too, such as a beef tenderloin BLT, country-fried steak and some creative pizzas, with toppings like homemade meatballs and chipotle chicken. There are happy hour drink and food specials every night, and the pub features an impressive number of flat-screen TVs.-- Ann Limpert

Good Neighborhood Bar!
By spiderman0079 on 12/12/2007
I just moved in nearby, and I like this place. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There is a great selection of beers on tap. And the food is uncommonly good for a bar. So far everything I've ordered has been tasty. The appetizers have generous portions, enough for a light meal (with beer of course!). Although it's a sports bar, it doesn't have an overwhelmingly sports bar feel. You'll find all types there. On the con side, the wait staff is a bit slow when it comes to getting your order or getting you the check. (Once you have the order in, the food generally comes fast). I'm not sure I can recommend this as a quick lunch place. As an evening hangout, it's one of my favorites.

VERY POOR SERVICE
By daddyoh717 on 03/24/2005
I have ordered carryout twice for lunch from the Ugly Mug. As we all know, lunchtime is a precious commodity here on the Hill. On the first occasion, I ordered a pizza and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived to pickup my lunch after 15 minutes had elapsed and was told it would be "right out". 10 minutes later I was handed my order. So my "10 minute" lucnh turned into 25 minutes which took up a good portion of my time. My second encounter just happened today. Again I called in a carryout order and was told it would be 10 to 15 minutes. Because of my former experience with the Ugly Mug, I told them I would be there in 25 minutes to pick it up. So 25 minutes later I walk in and tell them I'm here to pickup my food. What I got was a blank stare. The bartender (the only male who is there I am told) said he took no such order and he asks the waitress, who also replied in the negative. So the only gentleman who would take an order, repeated my order and my name back to me over the phone, now tells me he never took the order. I will NEVER, and I encourage all who read this to follow suit, provide profit to a business who cannot live up to thier end of a transaction. This piticular business being the "UGLY" mug.

a good addition to 8th street
By kesk8rs on 01/21/2005
Food at the Ugly Mug is some of the best on the street, and there's a good beer selection. The atmosphere still leaves something to be desired (and what's up with the mini pool table?) but I'm sure once they get settled in, this will become one of the best local bars.
