Fun in the sun is the goal of visitors to Cameron Run, home to the Great Waves Water Park. The three-flume water slide is a favorite with kids, with the wave pool a close second. The park, which also boasts a water playground and lap lanes, is jammed on weekends and hot summer afternoons. It is a favorite field trip for local recreation centers, so call and check the schedule first if you want to avoid the crowds. Beyond the water sports, a deluxe 18-hole miniature golf course challenges mini-golfers, and there are batting cages for players wanting to improve their swing. There is also a nearby fishing pond, plus picnic shelters where you can grab a quick bite.

Racist!By honey2002c on 06/24/2007 Great Waves is a fun and exciting water park for it's size too bad its managers are racist. I'm not the type to pull the race card, but it's hard to deny what's in front of your face. My family and I had been at great waves for a few hours, when my cousin and I decided to get back into the wave pool. Upon entering, a life guard approached us because my cousin wasn't wearing appropriate swim attire (he had on basket ball shorts). The lifeguard apologized and offered him a full refund. When we exit the pool we decide to talk to another employing to find out who he could get his refund. She told him that he could not recieve one! We told her the we had been at the park for hours before someone approached him about his attire. We also stated that there were dozen of other people in the pool who were not appropriately dressed. In fact many had on basket ball shorts, yet my cousin was discrimated against. She didn't seem to understand what we were saying. So you got her manager, a guy with a major attitude. At this point the rest of my family got out of the pool. We said the same thing to the manager and then he told us that we were being trouble makers. He also said that not only were we not going to get a refund, but that my cousin wasn't even eligible for a raincheck. We were outraged! This man's behavior was rude and offensive! He evidently must have been afraid that this black family (two of which were little girls) were going to hurt him...so he called the cops and said that we were threatening him. All we wanted was fairness. After all we paid our fee just like everyone else. It was a humiliating experience! I truly believe that had we been white, had my cousin been white... none of that would have happened. The mangement of this place is racist. Unless you support racism, you shouldn't patronize this place!

Lifeguards do their best.
By mbabylilgrl on 08/20/2007
The lifeguards at Cameron Run are very professional and efficient. Unlike other lifeguards at community pools they actually watch the kids and are continuously scanning the water making sure they don't miss anything. It angers me when someone portrays them as racists for performing their jobs. I witnessed one lifeguard harrassed because she had to kick someone out the pool for wearing basketball shorts and that lady was calling her all sorts of names like a racist. I don't understand why people go to the park WITHOUT a bathing suit when they KNOW that they are going to get in the water. It's common sense. It doesnt matter whether or not you have clothes on over your bathingsuit, as long as you wear one. People don't seem to understand that and there are signs everywhere telling them that. Otherwise the water park is pretty varied. There's the wave pool which gets packed with children and innertubes, 4 big slides (two of which scratch up your back but are worth it), a baby pool, a toddler pool with two slides, and a splash pad. The lifeguards try to make everything as clean as possible and it shows.

Expensive Boredom
By mucker1162 on 07/10/2007
The park is nice, clean, and the employees are professional. The price is $12.75 based on height, not age. My daughter is 11 and is 5 feet tall so I pay full price. The fake grass is so hot to walk on! I recommend walking on the concrete, which is cooler but still hot! you have to get there when the park opens, and RUN to get under the umbrellas! Or you will bake all day long! There is one wave pool which can get full fast when the kids rent innertubes! Dont get hit in the face with one! There are two baby pools and a small area for toddlers to play with water guns and buckets. The two slides usually only have one side open and the line goes slower than molassas! The park is not worth the money and it is surrounded by two creeks that smell like cow poop.

This Park is crap!
By escaladegirl1993 on 06/24/2007
This is a park that has a water park with a wave pool, regular pool, and 2 water rides; it also has a miniature golf course. Well, my family and I went to Great Waves (waterpark) and our experience wasn't great. The hamburgers tasted like they had mix soy w/ meat. But my biggest issue was when my brother got harassed because he is an African-American. They do not specific what is "appropriate" swimwear. My brother was wearing a pair of hooping shorts and the manager told him to get out of the water. The manager told my brother to let him see his pants to see if they had a net lining in them, then the manager was saying offensive things about our mother. My brother was enraged! So my brother told the manager "Don't say anything like that about my mother." The manager called the police on us and we got kicked out of the place. But my brother wasn't the only person to have on hooping shorts. In fact, some of the people had on shirts! The only people that the manager ever told to get out of the water were people of African-American or Hispanic descent. There was a Caucasian girl about 15 who was fully clothed and they didn't say one word to her! I am sorry I ever visited this place and you will be too, especially if you are African-American or Hispanic.
